Thousands descended on Monaltrie Park for the return of the intimate Ballater Highland games.

In the breath taking setting the sun beat down on the crowds as the games made a triumphant return.

The day was full of performances from massed pipe bands, dancers and heavy competitors.

Spectators of all ages, from far and wide, gathered in the 28C heat to revel in the day.

A new chieftain Philip Farquharson , was also escorted into the games by Invercauld Highlanders and the Queen’s Guard.
