Luke Donald has set his sights on winning back his Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open title after confirming his place in the field for Royal Aberdeen in July.
Englishman Donald, who won the title in 2011 at Castle Stuart, will be joined in Aberdeen by compatriots and Ryder Cup team-mates Justin Rose and Ian Poulter from July 10 to 13.
The 36-year-old boasts a phenomenal record of finishing in the top five in each of his first four visits.
With the Open championship taking place at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, the following week, US Open champion Rose is hoping to emulate Phil Mickelson’s achievement of winning both the Scottish Open and the Open last year.
Rose, who finished tied for 14th in his last appearance in 2011, said: “I’ve not played as well as I would’ve liked in the Open over the last couple of years and so, having seen what Phil did in 2013, I was keen to change my preparations and play at Royal Aberdeen.”
Rose’s friend Poulter, the inspiration behind Europe’s miraculous Ryder Cup comeback at Medinah in 2012, “I’m really looking forward to returning to the Scottish Open after a few years’ break. I can’t wait to play a good, old fashioned links course the week before going to Hoylake.”
