
Casualties involved in a three-car crash on the Cromarty Bridge have been taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
The A9 is still closed following the accident, which took place at 5.45pm.
Reports from the scene said that five people had been taken to hospital with injuries, which were not thought to be serious.
A white-coloured Audi A1, a blue Renault Clio and a burgundy Seat Leon were involved.
The Audi caught fire following the crash but the fire has since been put out.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “The fire has been extinguished and crews are making their way back to the stations.”
An eyewitness said: “The front ends of the Audi and the Renault were damaged. The Seat had a broken windscreen.”
Speaking earlier the fire service spokeswoman confirmed: “There are five people involved. They were all out of the vehicles before we got there.
“We got the call at 5.45pm There were two appliances from Dingwall, one from Inverness and the heavy rescue appliance in attendance.”
A police spokesman added: “Cromarty Bridge is closed following a serious road accident.”
