A 72-year-old man has been hospitalised after a serious assault in Inverness.
The pensioner was walking in a wooded footpath near the Merkinch Nature Reserve between 4pm and 5pm last Wednesday when he was attacked.
The incident took place near the junction of Carnarc Crescent and Kessock Avenue, leading to the railway crossing.
The man who was attacked managed to make his own way to Raigmore Hospital before he was later discharged.
Now, an investigation has been launched to find the attacker.
The suspect is described as white, around 35 to 40 years-old, around 5ft 8 in height and of stocky build, with short brown hair.
He was wearing dark clothing, spoke with a local accent and was walking “with a medium-sized dog.”
Those who may have sighted the incident have been urged to contact police.
Detective Constable Gary Hines, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or observed a man matching this description in the area at the time, to contact us.
“The injured man managed to make his way to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.
“He has since been discharged.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 2790 of July 2, 2025.”
