A north-east bakery firm has been accused of selling underweight packs of cheese straws.
The Aberdeen-based Chalmers company is facing a series of charges under weights and measures legislation.
The case against the firm was called at the city’s sheriff court yesterday and continued without plea.
It is alleged that at its base in Bucksburn’s Auchmill Road On November 9, Chalmers Bakery Ltd produced 50 underweight packets of cheese straws and an underweight packet of oatcakes.
And it is alleged to have used “unverified equipment” when making up packs of both products.
According to court papers the equipment calculated weight in “10g divisions” when making up packs of oatcakes and cheese straws, when “the correct division size when making up 150g packs is 1g”.
It is also alleged that on November 10 at a shop in Aberdeen’s Castle Street, the company sold cheese straws “in circumstances where you knew or had reasonable grounds” for believing they were not the correct weight, selling four packets of cheese straws to trading standards workers.
The business was established in 1956 in Bucksburn and has since expanded across the north-east.
The case had been continued until April 28.
