Thousands of people descended on Aberdeen this weekend to celebrate the best the city has to offer.

A cast of colourful characters brought the city centre to life as part of the Celebrate Aberdeen charities parade.

Hundreds of volunteers marched along Union Street in fancy dress, providing a bright contrast to the famous granite of the surrounding buildings.

More than 70 charities had signed up for the parade which aims to highlight the positive work carried out by volunteer organisations.

Earlier that day, scores of runners raced along the street as part of the Union Street Mile.

Three different age groups took part, with Matthew Wolak and Naomi Lang crossing the finishing line first as part of the senior race.

Just feet away, in Union Terrace Gardens, there was live music and fans of the squared circle were treated to a grappling showcase from Wrestlezone.

There were also musical performances at a number of other locations, including the central library, the Bon Accord Centre and the roof garden above the St Nicholas Centre.

Meanwhile, a festival has been announced for a city park which was severely damaged by the Storm Frank floods.

A major clean-up operation had to be carried out in Seaton Park after it was flooded when the River Don burst its banks in January.

This year’s Park Fest will pay tribute to the creator of the event who died earlier this year.

Sheila Gordon, Friends of Seaton Park chairwoman, said: “Park Fest 2 is a great opportunity for everyone who loves Seaton Park to come along and celebrate just how wonderful a park we have.

“This year has been extremely busy with many opportunities to show off our achievements – especially to these judges of the UK and Scotland’s top horticultural awards.

“The original idea for Park Fest came from one of our management committee members, Christine Burgess, who sadly died earlier this year. So this year’s event will be a poignant reminder of a lovely lady.”
