A serial domestic abuser has admitted attacking her partner while at a Thai restaurant in Aberdeen.

Sandra Vettese appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted lashing out at Simon Wong on August 21.

The court heard the pair had been at the Royal Thai Restaurant in Crown Street, where Mr Wong worked, when they began arguing about money.

Fiscal depute Sophie Hanlon said the row soon escalated.

She said: “Vettese and Mr Wong had been in a relationship for approximately 17 years, however it had been on and off. The incident occurred at Mr Wong’s place of work. Vettese was present, sitting at the bar area drinking alcohol.

“Mr Wong asked her to leave and an argument took place.”

The court heard that Vettese eventually left the restaurant at around 5pm but returned three hours later.

Miss Hanlon said: “About 8pm the accused, having left the restaurant, returned and she started to argue with Mr Wong again about money.

“Vettese was then invited into the kitchen area by Mr Wong as she was making a scene in front of the customers. At that time she grabbed him by the hair and spat in his face.”

Miss Hanlon said that Mr Wong had to be helped by another member of staff at Royal Thai who then contacted the police.

Representing the 45-year-old yesterday, solicitor Alex Burn said his client – who has previous convictions for attacking Mr Wong – had been drinking when the incident took place.

He said she now recognises that she has a problem with alcohol and has made inquires about starting with the alcohol services team at Cornhill.

Mr Burn said the pair had been arguing about money as their tenant had not been paying their rent on time and they had been left out of pocket.

Sheriff Alison Stirling said she was concerned about her history of domestic offending and ordered a background report be carried out.

She said she wanted to consider putting her on the Caledonian Project for domestic abusers.

Vettese, of Polworth Road, Torry, will return to court next month to be sentenced.
