Specialist dive teams continued the search for a missing Aberdeenshire kayaker yesterday as police released images of the clothes he may have been wearing.

Dominic Jackson was reported missing on Sunday night by his Fettercairn flatmate after he failed to call home from a weekend trip to Portsoy.

Police took over the search for him yesterday after coastguard teams from across the north-east began scaling back.

They have been launching specialist dive teams from a base of operations in Macduff.

Meanwhile, officers last night released images of the clothes Mr Jackson may have been wearing on the day he went missing.

He had purchased a bright yellow jacket with blue zips and black cuffs and waist band, and a blue and grey buoyancy aid with yellow zips ahead of the trip.

Neither of the items have been recovered and members of the public are being urged to contact officers on 101 if they come across them.

A kayak believed to belong to the 35-year-old was recovered off the Caithness coast in the early hours of Tuesday before safety equipment and a paddle was also spotted.

His sister Ellie, originally from Uckfield near Brighton, has described Mr Jackson as “universally loved”.

She has been coordinating the family’s search from her home in Australia.

Last night, she said: “Every indication is that the search is continuing tomorrow.

“The longer it goes on, the more eager we are to find him.

“It has been really hard going up and down the physically demanding cliffs for my dad, but he’s keeping it together because it’s all he can do.”

Dad Jeremy, has been out searching every day.

He said the family was now hoping for a “miracle”.

“Until someone professional tells me, like the coastguard, we have to live in hope for Dom,” he added.

“We are all trying to find Dominic alive.

“Finding the kayak was a big point in the exploration and it was a bit of a downer.

“We just hope Dom perhaps swam ashore, or he may have been on shore taking a photograph and his kayak floated away.

“There are too many scenarios to think about.

He could be injured, there are all sorts of scenarios.”

Mr Jackson was last spotted on Saturday morning in the Cullen area, between 10.30am and 11am.
