A Deeside group is holding a public consultation on a proposed £600,000 mountain biking project which would be the largest of its kind in the north-east.

The Tarland Development Group is holding its second consultation of the proposed Tarland Trails#2 scheme and are looking for community support to drive it forward.

The public got their say last June and a further feasibility study carried out in September into expanding the bike trails on the land at Drummy Woods up to Pittenderich.

The group has distributed leaflets to households in the area explaining the project in detail.

Chris Redmond, Tarland Trails#2 project coordinator said: “Our leaflet delivery man delivered approximately 700 leaflets by bike, covering 300km (186 miles) in doing so. We have received many supportive comments, questions and concerns already.

“It comes down to the overall result of the consultation, if we have resounding support then it’s on and the next step is to find the money to get a planning application submitted.

“If the local residents are significantly against it then the project will be confined to history. However we are hopeful that people can see that the strengths and opportunities will out-weigh the weaknesses and threats.

“If we are then granted planning permission we will set about finding the £600,000 needed to build the facility.”

The public consultation is being held on Monday, February 20 at MacRobert Hall, Tarland at 7.30pm.
