Councillor Jenny Laing wants people to have their say in how help for addicts in the city is delivered.
Councillor Jenny Laing wants people to have their say in how help for addicts in the city is delivered.

A forum to help alcohol and drug addicts will be held in Torry on Tuesday, and bosses hope residents will back the new initiative.

The Aberdeen City Alcohol and Drugs Partnership will be discussing issues and priorities from recent consultations, including best practice and innovation in prevention, protection and recovery.

The event will bring together members of the community, medical professionals, service users and anyone interested in supporting the partnership’s agenda.

The meeting is being held in the cafe area of Tullos Learning Centre in Girdleness Road between 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Forum chair, Luan Grugeon, is encouraging people to take the chance to head along and have their voices heard.

She said: “This is a real opportunity for local people to get involved in helping influence what services are delivered in Torry to keep people safe and help people recover from alcohol and drug problems.

“I’m really keen that people who have experienced problems and families affected come along, so we can learn from people with first-hand experience of drug and alcohol issues.”

Councillor Jenny Laing, chair of the Aberdeen Community Planning Partnership, insisted community participation was a pivotal factor in tackling addiction recovery.

She added: “Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our residents and protecting them from harm is extremely important.

“It is vital communities have a say in service delivery, so I urge people to attend this event and we can begin to tackle issues like drug and alcohol recovery together.”

The event is sponsored by the forum’s partner SCARF Aberdeen, and their Home Energy Advice Team will be available to discuss help available to keep homes warmer for less.
