Two north-east schools have come out on top in Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre’s annual poster competition.
Youngsters from across Scotland submitted entries to the competition – run by Aberdeen University – but St Peters RC Primary School and Aboyne Academy came out on top.
The pupils were given the theme of ‘the threats facing Scotland’s marine environment’ and were challenged to show their interpretation of this in their poster.
Entries had been received from 12 local primary schools and 16 secondary schools from across the country.
St Peters RC Primary School won a wildlife pack to encourage and monitor bio-diversity within their school grounds.
Aboyne Academy won a camera trap to help pupils monitor the bio-diversity that visits their local outdoor space.
Sandra Bisset, who was on the judging panel, said: “The judging was very difficult, the schools had clearly put in a lot of work, researching the topic and getting arty with all things marine. The winning poster gave a very strong message about the issues affecting our seas.”
A selection of the winning posters will be on display at Aberdeen University’s May Festival, which kicks off today.
