A body has been recovered in the search for a missing Aberdeen woman.
Moira Morrison, 62, was reported missing from her home in the Mannofield area on Tuesday night after last being seen at around 3pm in the River Walk area of Garthdee.
The body was found near Riverside Drive, close to the Bridge of Dee at around 10.30am this morning.
Inquiries are ongoing to confirm the identity, however Mrs Morrison’s family have been informed of the development.
Inspector Steve McEwan, who has been leading the search operation, said: “I can confirm that a body was discovered in the River Dee area at around 10.30am this morning.
“A recovery operation was launched with assistance from the Police Scotland dive unit and RNLI inshore lifeboat.
“Formal identification has yet to take place, however the family of Moira has been updated and we are liaising closely with them.
“Further information will be released when available.”
Extensive searches were carried out throughout the night on Tuesday involving specialist police resources including the dog unit, Coastguard, Aberdeen inshore lifeboat and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service.
Mrs Morrison was last seen wearing dark trousers, white trainers and a dark bomber-style jacket. She was carrying a white carrier bag. She is described as 5ft 2in, with a medium build and dyed light brown hair.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said it provided thermal imaging cameras and helped carry out a search in the Garthdee Road area.
A spokesman for Aberdeen lifeboat confirmed they had also been assisting police with the operation.
