“Despicable” raids could be linked say police after WW2 medals and kilt stolen

These are just some of the items which were callously stolen from an Aberdeen property.

Now police are urging the public to inform them if they see any of the treasured possessions for sale.

Treasured items including a kilt, brooch and World War II medals were stolen from a property in the Seafield area between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon last week.

Also taken were jewellery, a district nursing badge and foreign currency. In total, all of the items were worth more than £1,000.

Shortly after, between Friday and Sunday afternoons last week, £30,000 of valuables were taken in another raid at a house in Countesswells Road.

Police haven’t ruled out that the two break-in and theft incidents could be linked.

Detective Sergeant Bruce Buntain said: “At this time we are not ruling out that the crimes may be linked, however our enquiries are still at a relatively early stage and we must keep an open mind.

“Extensive work including reviewing CCTV and house-to-house inquiries are ongoing into each report and every effort is being made to trace the person, or people, responsible.

“Although entry was forced to these properties on each occasion, I would always urge the public to be vigilant and not make it any easier for criminals to gain access to your property. It can be easy to become complacent when you live in safe areas like these, however it is this vulnerability they may exploit most. Security lights and alarms are effective deterrents but simply ensuring your doors and windows are locked and secure can be the most effective deterrent of all. I would also urge members of the public to ensure their valuables are stored away and secure.

“Thefts of any kind are completely disgraceful, however to take items of such sentimental value is despicable. It won’t be tolerated.”

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
