Cairnbulg councillors will tour the site of a major housing development today as plans to increase the size of the village move forward.
Claymore Homes wants to build 37 new homes in the coastal community and create space for affordable builds in the future.
But because of the scale of the development, local councillors have been called to tour the site – in the Westhaven area of the village – before they reach an opinion.
A final decision will be made later this year at a meeting of the full council.
A mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes would be built if approved.
The village’s community council has already backed the scheme.
In a letter to Aberdeenshire Council’s planning team, the group’s secretary David Gammack said Claymore’s application was “broadly supported”.
“We understand there may be one or two individuals within the community who do not share this view, however the vast majority see it as a positive for a number of reasons,” he said.
A spokesman for Claymore argued the scheme was the “logical” next step forward for the village’s growth.
He added: “The demand for new housing in Cairnbulg is not being met and the site at Westhaven represents a small and logical expansion of the village.
“The modest housing development would provide much needed housing within the area and would nestle into the existing village characteristics and would reintegrate the site with the community.”
