Four teens detained in connection to Aberdeen school blaze

Firefighters battled a huge blaze at a school in Aberdeen through the night.

The alarm was raised at around 11am and emergency services rushed to the scene at Cordyce School on Riverview Drive in Dyce.

Police confirmed this morning four teenage boys have been detained following the incident.

Six engines were sent to the scene last night and 32 firefighters spent several hours combating the flames. The stop message came in at 2.15am.

UPDATE: Fire crews battling massive blaze at abandoned Aberdeen school

As the massive effort was launched, police sealed off Riverview Drive from the Asda store to the scene of the blaze.

A fire spokeswoman said this morning one pump remained at the scene and the crew was dampening down “and looking for hot spots”.

A spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council said: “Cordyce School has been closed to pupils since June 2017. Council officers will continue to liaise with the police.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further while there is an ongoing police investigation.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers can confirm that three youths aged 15 and one aged 14 have been detained and will be reported in relation to an alleged wilful fire-raising at Cordyce School, Riverview Drive, Dyce.”

Detective Inspector David Howieson said: “The building has been extensively damaged and it goes without saying that this could have been a much more serious incident.

“Thankfully no one was injured.

“We urge anyone who saw anything or has any knowledge which may assist our inquiries to get in touch with us on 101.”
