Turkey thieves strike at Aberdeen wholesaler

Police have appealed for witnesses

Police are hunting thieves who stole dozens of frozen turkeys from a north-east shop just weeks before Christmas.

Around 40 birds were taken from Makro in Aberdeen’s Wellington Circle at around 9pm last Thursday, November 23.

The haul is thought to be worth more than £500, and officers want to speak to anyone who thinks someone may have tried to sell them one of the turkeys.

Constable John Chalmers said: “We are keen to speak to anybody with knowledge of the incident or who may have recently been offered a turkey for sale.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who saw a silver Vauxhall Astra car in the area at the time.”

Chairman of Nigg Community Council, Alan Strachan, said: “I’m disappointed to hear there’s been a theft in the area, but it’s not surprising that something has happened at this time of year.

“It’s unfortunate that business premises are the ones that are being hit.

“It just goes to show that it’s not only the private householders but it’s the businesses as well that have to take extra measures to make sure their property is secure.”

A spokeswoman from Makro added: “We take matters of security very seriously and are co-operating fully with the police who are investigating the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting incident 0589 of 24/11.
