Police investigation after teens spotted jumping on car bonnet

The vandals were seen jumping up and down on a car in the Inchbrae Drive area of Garthdee.
The vandals were seen jumping up and down on a car in the Inchbrae Drive area of Garthdee.

Vandals have caused damaged more than a dozen cars – jumping on the bonnets and smashing wing mirrors.

Hundreds of pounds worth of damage has been caused to the vehicles, parked on Inchbrae Drive in the Garthdee area of Aberdeen over the weekend.

Police were called at about 3am yesterday after residents were woken up by loud noises and banging outside.

Around a dozen youths are believed to have been smashing wing mirrors and vandalising vehicles.

One resident said she woke up after hearing shouting just outside her bedroom window.

When she looked through the blinds, she said she saw a teen jumping up and down on her husband’s car and called 999.

The vandals had severely dented one of the doors, and smashed the windscreen beyond repair.

The resident said: “I was in bed, and I heard screaming and shouting and saw a big group of people outside.

“There was about a dozen youths and there was one guy jumping repeatedly on the bonnet of my husband’s car.

“I shouted at him, but he just said to ‘come and have a go’, so I called 999 and the police arrived.

“I have no idea what they were doing, they weren’t fighting, I just thought they were out to vandalise to be honest.

“I’ve lived here for 40 years and I’ve never seen something like this.

“It’s a company car, but it’s still going to cost hundreds of pounds to get it fixed.”

Sergeant David Elrick said: “This was a mindless act resulting in damage to the cars of several residents of Inchbrae Drive.

“I would ask anybody with information regarding the incident or the persons responsibly to call us as soon as they can.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anybody who saw a group of youths in the area at the time, including a female with bleached blonde hair and a male wearing a dark puffa style jacket.”

Anyone with information is urged to phone the police on 101, or Crimestoppers in 0800 555 111.
