The centenary of birth of the author behind beloved character Miss Jean Brodie will be celebrated in Aberdeen this month.
Dame Muriel Spark is widely regarded as one of the best Scottish writers to have live and published 22 works before her death in 2006.
She rose to fame with the publication of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, her sixth novel, in 1961.
On April 23, Dame Muriel’s close friend Alan Taylor will give a free talk about their relationship.
He said: “In this, the 100th anniversary of her birth, the genius of Muriel Spark is being celebrated worldwide, from New Zealand to New York.
“Of course, she was – as she herself never tired of saying – ‘Scottish by formation’.
“2018 has been dubbed ‘the year of Spark’ and countless events are planned in her honour across Scotland, including this one in Aberdeen where once upon a time she was delighted to receive an honorary degree.”
The hour-long talk will be followed by a question and answer session.
A Friendship with Muriel Spark will be held in Aberdeen’s Central Library from 6pm on Monday April 23.
