Derek Jessiman, 61, went missing from the seafront on the Portuguese island during a storm on February 28. Witnesses said the retired executive climbed over a wall to look out to sea but was then swept away by a wave. The holiday island’s maritime police have been searching for him ever since but have now called off their efforts. A spokesman said: “Mr Jessiman’s status remains missing and that will stay the same unless there is a change in the status of this incident.” Mr Jessiman had been living on the island with his Swedish fiancée Viveka Feder, who was working as a tour guide.
