The Queen has long been a fan of Land Rovers, and she is often spotted behind the wheel of one during visits to Balmoral.

And tomorrow, the gates of the estate will be open to Land Rover owners from across the north-east for a special event.

The estate is inviting owners to enter their “pride and joy” in a best in show competition during the Land Rover Gathering.

Participants will get to park up in the grounds of Balmoral and show off their machines from 2pm tomorrow.

An estate spokesman said online: “The Land Rover Gathering at Balmoral is a chance for you to park inside the grounds of Balmoral and enter your pride and joy into our best in show competition.

“All Land Rover drivers and passengers get half price entry. Don’t park your Landy in the outer car parks but drive over the green bridge over the river Dee right up to the ticket office at the main gate and you will be met by the staff on duty.”

Later this year, an exhibition looking at the history of the Land Rover is being being staged at Balmoral.

Land Rover holds a Royal Warrant as supplier to the Royal Household, a relationship that dates back to 1948 when King George VI viewed the original vehicle. It is the only car manufacturer to hold all three royal warrants from the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles.
