A former north-east primary school that was mothballed four years ago could finally be sold.
Old Fordyce Primary School – next to the new and in-use Fordyce Primary – has been touted for sale by Aberdeenshire Council since 2014, when councillors agreed the building would be better served by being moved on.
Since then, ASPC has marketed the property for offers of over £80,000.
And on Tuesday, members of the Banff and Buchan area committee will finally hear of a potential buyer during a behind-closed-doors report.
When the building was first earmarked for sale, concerns were raised by then-councillor Ian Gray.
The SNP councillor for the Banff district, who died in 2016, voiced fears that a nearby play park could be lost if a private owner took the property on.
He said: “If there are plans to move it, then I’m quite happy, but I would like it deferred for future discussions.”
There was hope, however, that it could remain in place.
At the time, Alex Bain, a business support officer for the council, said it would depend what the new use of the building is on whether or not the park would have to be moved.
Access to the new primary school, which uses a road that cuts through the ground of the old facility, will also have to be maintained.
The community council and community association have each asked to be consulted prior to a final decision being taken on a future use for the building.
No information has been provided about what the school could be converted into, however ASPC has marketed the property as large enough to accommodate two houses.
Last night, a spokeswoman for the local authority said the council did not comment on private papers.
