Steven Donaldson was found dead near Loch of Kinnordy.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was found in an Angus nature reserve.

The body of Steven Donaldson, 27, was discovered in Kinnordy Nature Reserve, Kirriemuir, last Thursday morning.

Two men, both aged 23, and one 19-year-old woman have been arrested.

Following the grim discovery, forensic officers sealed off a number of nearby roads and beauty spots.

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent James Smith, from the police’s Major Investigation Team, said inquiries are still continuing.

He said: “I would like to thank all of those who have provided information and assistance in connection with this inquiry so far.

“Our inquiries are still ongoing and I would encourage anyone with information they think could assist to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”

Mr Donaldson had worked for Aberdeen-based oil services firm Interwell since December 2012.

Last night a spokeswoman for the firm said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Steven Donaldson, who was one of our employees.

“Steven worked for Interwell for five and a half years and was employed as a tool specialist.”

She added: “We are working with the relevant authorities to support them in any way we can and are offering support to Steven’s family and our employees.”

Police have confirmed that Mr Donaldson drove from Arbroath to Kirriemuir last Wednesday evening in his white BMW.

It is believed the car was seen in the nature reserve car park at around 11pm.
