Stonehaven beer festival brewing up some cash for charity this weekend

There was fun in the sun in Stonehaven yesterday as the first kegs were tapped for another year of one of Scotland’s biggest beer festivals.

More than 5,000 people are expected to sample some of the 120 brews available at this year’s Midsummer Beer Happening in a custom-built marquee at the seaside town’s Baird Park.

Now in its fourth year, the annual celebration of all things beer will also feature award-winning food vendors from all across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, local musical talent and more – and the event will raise cash for charity too.

Since the event started as the Stonehaven Real Ale Festival in 2009, more than £96,000 has been generated for good causes.

Organiser Robert Lindsay said: “This is our fourth Happening and we intend to make it the best yet.

“There will be some familiar offerings, and some beers people won’t have had the chance to try before. We also have outstanding food, such as the Bay Fish and Chips, and some great music including local folk hero Ray Moore.

“We fully expect to pass the £100,000 milestone at this year’s Happening. That has only been possible because of all the people showing such great support to the event over the years.

“This year, everyone at the Happening will be helping Stonehaven Sea Cadets, Stonehaven Amateur Swimming Club and local services of Alzheimer’s Scotland.”

The festival will take place today and tomorrow.
