Visitors and staff members at RSPB’s Dolphinwatch were delighted by the arrival of a pod of whales in Aberdeen harbour over the weekend.
Two staff members and eight visitors were at the viewing point late Saturday afternoon when three minke whales passed the south break-wall at Torry Battery.
Laura Jane Watson, visitor experience officer at Dolphinwatch, said: “This was the first whale sighted by the team on site, so it was extra special for us.
“We managed to watch the three surface a couple of times before they disappeared.
“After we lost sight of them, the team packed up and then travelled along the road towards the lighthouse in the hope we would catch another glimpse of the pod and perhaps capture a picture.”
Unfortunately, an influx of haar rolled in over the ocean, and the whales quickly disappeared from view.
“We were all thrilled to have spotted them even if it was only for a few moments,” Ms Watson added.
“We’re running a sports themed event this Saturday at our usual site at Torry Battery.
“One of the events we have is a deep dive limbo, where we are encouraging people to see if they can ‘dive’ as deep as a minke Whale or ‘jump’ the length of the bottlenose dolphin.
“Maybe, if we are lucky, we will even see another whale.”
