For the first time in almost 50 years today’s The Press and Journal has been produced from offices in the heart of Aberdeen.
Journalists this weekend started work at the new Aberdeen Journals headquarters inside the Marischal Square development.
The move from the Lang Stracht back into the city centre is a historic one for The Press and Journal and our sister paper the Evening Express.
From 1894 until 1970 the newspapers were based in Broad Street, on the site of the current council chambers.
Journalists from the P&J and EE made the move over the weekend and in the coming weeks other departments will leave the Mastrick building for the state-of-the-art £107 million development.
As well as moving our offices back to the city centre, readers will also be able to place notices, pay for ads, buy merchandise and book holidays at a new Aberdeen Journals shop opening soon on Upperkirkgate.
Aberdeen Journals – part of DC Thomson Media – has taken residence of the top floor of 1 Marischal Square, which will be home to more than 200 staff from editorial, digital, advertising, newspaper sales, marketing and commercial.
Richard Neville, editor-in-chief at DC Thomson morning newspapers, said: “We’re delighted to be producing The Press and Journal and the Evening Express from our fantastic new home in the heart of Aberdeen.
“Virtually everyone who has set foot in the new office has been bowled over and that’s down to the vision and hard work of Fiona Adam and her team Covell Matthews and the fit-out team at Transform who have done an outstanding job, designing and creating such an amazing space for us to work in.
“We wanted somewhere that would inspire our teams and reflect the way Aberdeen Journals has changed from a traditional publisher to a modern, multimedia company – and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”
Other companies which have already moved into the building include Mackie’s, Costa, All Bar One and Marriott International.
Tony Macaroni and Prezzo will also occupy the site.
Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) will also make the move from its current home in the city’s West End to Marischal Square this month and will occupy the top floor of the 2MSq building.
Meanwhile NHS National Services Scotland (NHS NSS) are in talks to fit out part of the fourth floor of 1 Marischal Square.
