A north-east country park has warned people to beware of a scammer claiming to be selling tickets for a forthcoming Halloween event.

The man from New York contacted a number of people online apparently selling tickets for the Halloween at Haddo event, at Haddo House near Tarves.

The ticket-only event is a sell-out, prompting the mystery man to try and take advantage of its popularity.

People were yesterday still looking for tickets for the event online, with demand such that this year it will be held on three consecutive nights, from tomorrow until Friday.

Haddo House has advised anyone whom he has contacted not to engage with him.

While adult tickets for the event are priced at £6.50, and £4 for kids, the scammer, writing under the name of John, warned that tickets would be “costly”, before demanding $40 (£30) a ticket.

Nobody has yet reported falling victim to the scam.

Staff at Haddo House declined to comment.

But in a warning posted online, they said: “It has come to my attention that a man from New York is attempting to sell tickets for Halloween at Haddo. Please block him if he contacts you and do not engage with him.

“Apologies to anyone he has made contact with.”
