Former classmates of a college, which was once based in Aberdeen, have reunited in Dundee for the first time in 55 years.

The former students, who graduated in 1963,  met to reminisce and relive their memories from studying at Dunfermline College of  Physical Training.

The college was opened in the Fife town in 1905.

In 1939, staff and students from the facility were transferred to the Teachers Training Centre in Aberdeen, because its former buildings had been commandeered by the navy during the Second World War.

Four years later, the college again relocated, this time to Woolmanhill in Aberdeen, due to over-crowding problems at their previous site.

The college left Aberdeen in 1966, opting instead for newly-built specialist accommodation in Edinburgh.

Dot Dobson, 75, said she “had a ball” during her time studying in Aberdeen.

She said: “We all trained to be teachers in the city and, since many of our classmates have sadly passed away, really are part of the end of an era.

“People from our class have led very interesting careers since graduating from the Aberdeen campus.

“When we studied there, everyone knew everyone and personally, I knew the city like the back of my hand.

“It was just such a fun place to study.”

A three-day-reunion was held for Ms Dobson and her classmates at Invercarse Hotel and, for many, it was the first opportunity to see each other since graduating 55 years before.

Of the 35 students who attended the reunion, half were from northern areas such as Fort William and Aberdeen.

The classmates travelled around Dundee throughout Monday and Tuesday, and enjoyed a visit to the nearby Glamis Castle in Angus.

On Wednesday evening, the former classmates were treated to a champagne reception at their hotel.

Guest speaker at the reception was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire, a former student at Dunfermline College, who highlighted the impact of the college on her life.

Ms Dobson added: “The Deputy Lord Lieutenant was a great surprise, as I hadn’t told the classmates she would be attending.

“She spoke about her time in the World Hockey Tour and really reminded us on what our training at the college did for us.

“It was a really nice experience to meet up with everyone and talk about our memories.

“We felt so welcome in Aberdeen and all had a fab teaching experience and forged great friendships.

“Studying at Dunfermline College stood us in good stead for the rest of our lives.”
