A Fraserburgh man has made it his mission to create a Men’s Shed in the town.
John Grant came up with the idea after chatting with friends at a Military Veterans Breakfast Club, and is now determined to “give it a go” and bring people together.

The Men’s Shed scheme was initially launched in Australia to tackle loneliness among older men, but has spread across the world with groups already running in Turriff, Aberchirder, Peterhead, Ellon and Inverurie.
After a few weeks visiting sheds in neighbouring towns and speaking to various organisations, the 58-year-old has arranged a meeting to help get more people involved.
Those interested in being a part of the group are being encouraged to go along to the Fraserburgh Community and Sports Centre on November 30 at 1.30pm.
Mr Grant said: “It will be great to get more people involved.
“The meeting is for anyone who is interested and wants to know about it – we really need a chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer to take the project forward.
“I want it to be inclusive so anyone can get involved whether they’re male, female, old, young and there’s no charge for being a member.
“After sitting talking about it at breakfast club, no one was going to take on the challenge so I though I would give it a go.
“Hopefully it will get people out of their houses and doing something, especially those who live on their own or have learning difficulties.
“We’re still in our very early stages for the Fraserburgh Men’s Shed and I’m hoping the meeting will get people involved.”
As part of his plan Mr Grant has enlisted local charities and organisations to get more people involved.
Groups include Foyer, Aberdeenshire Council and the older people’s forum but Mr Grant is hoping the group will not rely solely on funding.
He said: “I’m hoping we can get involved with different organisations such as gardeners groups who we can build things for in return for grown veg – something simple.
“But from there I hope we can take on contracts to make ourselves self sufficient.
“Speaking to people their hopes for the Men’s Shed have been really positive.
“Our hardest task is going to be finding suitable accommodation.
“I’ve spoken to a councillor and we’re going to look at our options.
“People will be giving back to the community and making friends which will be great for Fraserburgh.”
