A “loving mother” has been named as the victim of a north-east farmhouse fire.

Four fire engines were sent to Anguston Road west of Peterculter on Thursday afternoon, where they found a “well-developed” fire at Benthoul Cottage.

After arriving at the scene they confirmed that a woman had died in the blaze.

Last night she was named as 66-year-old Roseanne Ogilvie and her family paid a heartfelt tribute to her.

They said: “Roseanne was a loving mother and partner.

“We have been left devastated by this tragic incident.”

As well as the four fire engines, a water carrier and a fire incident report vehicle were also at the scene.

Firefighters could be seen at the top of a ladder spraying water through the roof of the building to ensure it was completely extinguished.

Others used breathing apparatus while they tackled the flames.

Overall it took around 90 minutes to put out the fire, but crews remained at the scene afterwards to dampen down hotspots.

Police and a fire incident vehicle could also be seen at the house yesterday afternoon as investigations continued into the possible cause.

Detective Inspector Sam Buchan said: “Our thoughts are with Roseanne’s family at this sad time.

“Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing in conjunction with the SFRS however we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Bruce Farquharson, the fire service’s local senior officer for Aberdeen City, said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.15pm on Thursday, November 15 to reports of a building fire near Aberdeen.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire engines to Peterculter’s Anguston Road, where firefighters were met by a fire within a one storey building.

“Crews extinguished the fire, but sadly a female was found to have passed away at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with all of those who are affected at this time.”

He added: “A joint investigation between ourselves and Police Scotland will be carried out in due course.”
