A man has admitted injuring a cyclist by driving dangerously on a street in Aberdeen.
Ian Anderson was driving on Stoneywood Road at about 5.10pm on May 28 this year and made a right turn at the junction with Waterton Road.
But as a result of the bright sun he was unable to see Anthony Jack approaching on a bike.
A collision took place and the cyclist struck the screen before landing on the road.
Anderson, 66, confessed to a charge of dangerous driving by letter at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Fiscal depute Felicity Merson revealed the extent of the injuries sustained by Mr Jack.
She said: “He was kept in hospital overnight.
“He was found to have fractured ribs, a broken shoulder and a laceration to his neck.
“At that time it was not as though there would be long term issues other than the amount of time off work.
“The bicycle was also significantly damaged which had a value of £1,600.
“The accused was asked briefly about the circumstances and indicates that he did not see the complainer on his bike due to being blinded by the sun.”
Sheriff Ian Wallace imposed four penalty points on Anderson, of Slains Circle in Bridge of Don, and fined him £500.
