A Peterhead teacher has been called up to join the national rugby team.
Mairi Forsyth, who teaches maths at Peterhead Academy, has been asked to take on the role of a substitute for the Scotland’s Women’s squad.
The principal teacher of numeracy plays for Stirling County Rugby Club and also teaches Blue Toon youngsters physics.

She has found her work ethic and attitude in the classroom has helped her find success in sport.
And Miss Forsyth hopes that by proving work can help you reach your goals she will inspire the young people at Peterhead Academy to aim high to follow their passions as well as keeping fit.
Miss Forsyth said: “I am hugely honoured and grateful to have been called up to receive my first cap for Scotland Women.
“I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from both pupils and staff at Peterhead Academy.
“It has been incredible and I can’t thank everyone enough.”
It is the first time the teacher has been capped for the national squad, being listed as a substitute for a game against Canada last month.
The teams came up against each other on November 27 with the final score of Scotland 25 – Canada 28.
A penalty missed by Scotland in the last few minutes cost the team the game.
Pupils, parents and locals have been supporting the teacher’s appointment.
Councillor Gillian Owen, chairwoman of the council’s education and children’s services Committee said: “It’s wonderful to have people like Mairi working with our young people across Aberdeenshire.
“A big part of raising attainment is about showing goals are achievable, your dreams are worth working hard for and you can excel in more than one area.
“It’s about developing a growth mindset and realising if you’re not quite achieving what you’d like to yet, you can get there eventually.
“Well done to Mairi and good luck with rugby as well as teaching.”
