Entries are now open for the Gathimba Edwards Foundation’s (GEF) annual Haddo House Cross Country event which will be held later this month.
It will be the fourth year the charity, founded by Aberdeen’s Myles Edwards and Kenyan Gideon Gathimba, has organised the event at the historic building near Ellon in Aberdeenshire.
However, the event will not go ahead unless the charity can recruit 20 volunteers to carry out marshalling duties.
Funds raised through this year’s races will be used to support the mission of the charity and help give disadvantaged children in Kenya increased access to shelter, education, clothing and sustainable foods.
The GEF Haddo Cross County event on January 27 will feature races for all ages and abilities in a relaxed atmosphere.
Children aged 5 to 8 can try a trail over a distance of less than a mile, while older boys and girls will compete for their prizes over longer distances based on their age.
Adults have the choice of the three-mile or six-mile route around the grounds of the stately home and country park.
GEF founder Myles Edwards said: “We are really excited to be hosting the Haddo XC races for the fourth year in a row.
“It’s an event which has great history long before we started organising it and there always a fantastic atmosphere.
“The even has enabled us to do so much for our kids in Kenya – getting more of them into school, expanding our sporting initiatives and building houses.”
Last year the races raised hundreds for the Cheerful Special Needs Children’s Home in Kenya.
The money helped provide the children’s home with maize flour for a year, as well as directly support a Nairobi the family of a man recovering from major surgery.
Entry forms are available on the GEF website and on the day people will also be able to register up to 30 minutes before each race start time.
GEF is still seeking around 20 volunteers to marshal and help with registrations, each of which would receive refreshments during their shift.
