An Aberdeen beach was cordoned off yesterday over a suspected bomb threat.
Police and coastguard teams were called to the sands just north of the mouth of the River Don shortly after 1pm, after a member of the public reported an alarming object.
The area was quickly taped off, and public access to the beach was restricted for several hours.
Donmouth Road was closed off for the duration of the incident.
A police spokesman said the concerned member of the public had discovered the object washed up on the beach, close to the mouth of the river.
An explosive ordnance device team, or bomb squad, was called to examine the object.
When the team carefully approached the suspicious device, it was established that it was not dangerous and the incident was declared a false alarm.
Last night a police spokesman said the object in question was harmless, and composed of metal and wood.
