An Aberdeen community has hailed the return of a “lifeline” service after the reopening of its post office.
The new Woodside post office on Great Northern Road opened its doors to the public yesterday.
It will be run by husband and wife Zulfiqar and Sal Ahmad, who presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening.
The news is a welcome boost for the area, which lost its post office three years ago.
Post Office area manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Kenny Lamont, said: “We are absolutely delighted the new post office in Woodside has opened.
“When the old one closed we tried really hard to get someone to take it on because it’s a lifeline service and it’s very important that we maintain post office branches across the country.
“It is already providing such a vital service to everyone in the community, from the very young to the elderly.
“It’s been well supported and we want that to continue.
“We want it to prosper and continue to thrive going forward.”
The ribbon to mark the official opening was cut by Norman Davidson, 71, who was born in Woodside and is now a resident at nearby Laurels Lodge Care Home.
Mrs Ahmed, who along with her husband also runs the Berryden Post Office, said the couple were looking forward to a new challenge.
