A former Scotland midfielder and Peterhead FC manager has suffered a brain aneurysm.
Former Blue Toon boss Ian Wilson – who started his career with Elgin City FC before making his name as a Leicester City player – was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Friday after he fell ill at an event organised by Cove Rangers FC.
The 61-year-old, who has his own football school in the north-east, under went surgery at the weekend and is in a stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
Scott Bridgwater, head coach at Ian Wilson Soccer Coaching, said: “He is stable and he’s expected to make a full recovery. He’s in being monitored and they are still giving him some treatment at the moment.
“It was a bit of a shock when we all found out. However, he is being well looked after and he’s in good hands with the staff at ARI.
“We have already had a lot of people messaging us through social media wishing him well.”
Mr Wilson spent time as a youth player with Aberdeen FC and Dundee FC before beginning his senior career in the Highland League with Elgin..
He featured for the Borough Briggs side during their famous Scottish Cup run in 1977 before being picked up by Leicester City.
He turned out for Leicester more than 300 times during an eight-year spell in his playing career, and won five caps for the Scottish national team during his time with the Foxes – with all five coming in 1987.
He also featured for Everton, who paid Leicester £300,000 for his services, and had spells in Turkey for Besiktas, Derby County, Bury and Wigan Athletic before taking charge at Balmoor.
