A north-east cancer charity has raised more than £100,000 at its inaugural clay pigeon shoot.

Maggie’s Aberdeen hosted the event at Kincardine Castle near Aboyne on Sunday, raising £100,000.

With auctions and a raffle on top of the shoot, the event proved a resounding success.

The clay pigeon shooting competition was organised by the event’s headline sponsor, James Jamieson Construction, and consisted of 22 teams of four players each.

Greig Engineering was crowned top team while Leigh Anderson was the highest scoring shot of the day.

Auction prizes included a Loch Ness luxury day cruise for six, a four-night stay for two at the Akyra Beach Club, Phuket, exclusive shooting and fishing days and two bottles of limited edition single malt whisky.

Fundraising manager Paula Cormack said: “An event like this takes a great deal of planning and we are incredibly grateful to our sponsors and supporters who have so generously donated their energy, time and advice to ensure that this was a great day for everyone involved.”

James Jamieson, from the construction firm, said: “Maggie’s is a great charity that has a positive impact on the lives of many people in the north-east and across the UK and we are proud to support it.

“The event was a great way for the local community to come together to have some fun and make a difference by raising money for a wonderful cause.”
