The dream house of the future must include an ice cream library filled with tasty treats, north-east youngsters have decided.

Their views on the ideal home were sought by Turriff architect Annie Kenyon in an effort to inspire the next generation.

She encouraged pupils at Turriff Primary School and Academy to tap into their creative side and was overwhelmed by the response.

Designs both practical and fantastical were put forward by the youngsters, many of whom thought dream homes should be about more than just a roof and four walls.

In addition to the ice cream library, there were also drawings featuring a zoo and a VIP treehouse.

Annie and her team at the Annie Kenyon Architects office in Inverkeithny have been looking through piles of designs to create a shortlist of their favourites.

And she is hoping some of the young participants in the competition will follow in her creative footsteps.

“I have always been passionate about encouraging children to develop their creativity and decided to launch a design your dream home competition this term,” said Annie, who attended Markethill Primary and Turriff Academy before studying at RGU.

“We wanted to give the children the opportunity to test their creativity and let them consider how it feels to be an architect.

“They were asked to present this in any form and consider the accommodation as well as the technical presentation.

“The creativity of some of the of the entries is just brilliant, with the youngsters really pushing the limits.

“I’m really excited by the talent shown.”

She added: “The competition was made extra special by the fact that Turriff Academy’s long-standing art teacher Moira Tedcastle was there on the last day of term to hand over the entries.

“She was my art teacher back in the 90’s at Turriff Academy.

“It turned out this was her last day as she was retiring after 42 years of teaching.”

Shortlisted from Turriff Primary are Ava Proctor, Lewis West, Charlie Greig, Chloe Francis, Nicol Kaison, Eleanor Jex and Lucy Gove.

For the Academy pupils there were three categories to compete in – creativity, contemporary architectural design and traditional architectural design and presentation.

Shortlisted for creativity are Hannah White, Logan Stronach, Rebecca Taylor, Raeanne and  Curtis Wheele.

Tony Morrison, Rachel Gerard, Samuel Duguid and Madeleine Massey impressed in the contemporary design category.

And shortlisted in the traditional design category are Katie Anderson, Tilly Fisher, Finlay D, Benjamin Graham Lindy and Elmbank Project.

The winners will be announced at the Annie Kenyon Architects stall at Turriff Show on August 5 at 11am.
