A man had to be evacuated by helicopter after suffering injuries during an industrial accident at an Aberdeenshire quarry.
Police, ambulance and fire crews descended on the Methlick Quarry, including specialist fire vehicles from Aberdeen, around 4pm yesterday, after reports that a man had injured himself.
Services surrounded the Lovie Ltd operated site and it quickly became clear the man had injured his arm.
However, an air ambulance had to be dispatched to the scene and he was subsequently taken to hospital following the ordeal.
Bosses at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will now probe the incident for its cause.
Last night, a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed they had attended the incident.
He said: “We were called to reports of an accident at the quarry.
“The man suffered an arm injury and was evacuated via helimed.
“It has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.”
A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that a number of vehicles were sent to the scene.
She said: “We were called to assist the ambulance. We had two pumps from Ellon and two specialist vehicles from Aberdeen after receiving the call at 4.03pm.”
In June, the quarry had its application to extend works for the next decade approved by Aberdeenshire council bosses.
The firm had applied to Aberdeenshire Council to grant the extension at the facility along the River Ythan.
The quarry will expand by eight hectares with the approval of Aberdeenshire Council officers and it is planned to yield some 830,000 tonnes of sand and gravel.
Methlick Quarry has been in operation since 1992. Lovie Ltd took over the running of the quarry in May 2005.
