A new book delving into the history of a Fraserburgh lighthouse will be released this weekend.
Michael Strachan, collections manager at the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, will launch his new book Kinnaird Head Lighthouse: An Illustrated History on Sunday.
He will be giving a short talk about the lighthouse at 1.30pm before signing copies of the book which will be available in the museum shop.
Mr Strachan’s book details the the history of Kinnaird Head, from the building of the castle and through the years it stood as a functioning lighthouse, ending with its present day role as the museum.
It includes exclusive information about the lighthouse which has never been published before, and features images from the Recognised Collection of National Significance.
Mr Strachan, who is looking forward to the launch, said: “I was inspired to write the book as Kinnaird Head really is one of Scotland’s most fascinating lighthouses.
“From being built on a castle to being retired as a museum it really is a unique and exceptional light.
“That one building encapsulated the history of the Northern Lighthouse Board better than any other – including the Bell Rock.
“It is also simply my local lighthouse.
“My family have lived in the shadow of the castle and looked for the light of the lighthouse from the time they were built.”
The event also coincides with the 2019 Doors open Day meaning people who visit will be given free entry to the galleries and the wine tower as well as 50% off tours of the lighthouse and castle on Saturday and Sunday.
