This year’s TechFest is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a series of space-themed events.
Leading astronomers from across Scotland will make their way to Aberdeen for workshops and talks for all ages throughout September.
Glasgow University Astronomer Martin Hendry and the Aberdeen Astronomical Society will come together to lead a voyage of discovery in To the Moon and Back on September 11.
They will explore the science and technology behind Neil Armstrong’s giant leap for humankind during the Apollo 11 mission.
There will also be an interactive family workshop on September 21, presented by Alastair Bruce and Matjaz Vidmar from Edinburgh University.
They will be inviting their audience to study the stars, create constellation pictures for a night sky mural and get hands-on with rocks from space.
The pair will also take a close look at the future of space exploration, sifting science fact from science fiction as they do so.
TechFest’s Sarah Chew said: “We’re excited to bring some of Scotland’s top astronomers to the TechFest 2019 festival where we can all learn more about these historical moments in STEM history as well as what the future looks like for our solar system.”
Supported by BP and Shell, the TechFest is the north-east’s annual festival of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
