Peterhead FC has donated two prime seats to a cancer charity so that patients, staff and volunteers can enjoy a break from their troubles by watching the Blue Toon in action.
Friends of Anchor and the club teamed up earlier this year when Peterhead FC donated the logo space on their new away kit to the worthy cause – which was a first for the side.
Sales of the kit have hit new records with manager Martin Johnson admitting that sales for the charity-branded away kits have sold more than those produced for the last seasons combined.
Now, in a new step for the partnership, the club has donated two Balmoor Stadium main stand seats to the charity to give to patients, staff and volunteers for home games.
Mr Johnson said: “We wanted to keep the momentum going and we were conscious of the fact there are people out there who benefit from Friends of Anchor and people who do their bit alongside them.
“We wanted to give something back.
“Neil Daniel, who owns a local car body repair shop, donated his time to paint the seats pink, matching the away kit.”
The first people to use the branded seats will be Sonny Milne and his daughter Louise as they take in a tie against Montrose tomorrow.
Mr Milne, from Oldmeldrum, was told he had a tumour behind his nose in June last year and underwent seven weeks of treatment.
He said: “This is a brilliant idea, fine for people who are local.
“I’ve never been to Balmoor before but now I hope I’ll be coming back soon.”
His daughter Louise started fundraising for the charity after seeing the help members provided for her dad.
She said: “It’s great to see that volunteers and the unit staff will be rewarded for all their efforts, as well as patients getting to have the seats.
“I try to raise money for the Friends at least once a year – the next thing we’re planning is a quiz night in February.”
Friends of Anchor’s fundraising and marketing assistant Naomi Forrest thanked the club for the donation.
She added: “We’re grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness of our charity and we’re lucky to be able to offer these to the staff, patients and fundraisers.”
