A public exhibition has been organised to highlight the proposed Berryden Corridor improvement project in Aberdeen.
The event, in advance of a planning application being submitted, will allow the public to ask questions about the scheme and is designed to keep the community informed.
The venture will provide a major upgrade of the city’s roads network, amid concerns that Berryden Road currently operates beyond its capacity, which causes significant congestion and delays, particularly at peak times.
It aims to improve the efficiency of the network and offer solutions to many of the problems which currently affect north-east motorists and commuters.
The project is designed to build on the benefits gained from the opening of the Diamond Bridge, which has about 12,000 vehicles going over it daily while relieving congestion at the Bridge of the Don and the Haudagain roundabout.
A council spokeswoman said: “The new road layout will improve the efficiency of the road, cycleway and pavement network through improving journey time reliability, relieve congestion and improve infrastructure locally for walking and cycling.
“We would encourage people to come along, view the exhibition, and speak to our staff with any queries they might have.”
The long-awaited Berryden Corridor had originally been due for completion by 2020.
In 2017, ground investigations took place for the new council road, which will stretch from the Skene Square roundabout to St Machar/A96 roundabout, and empty former garage buildings on Powis Terrace were also demolished in 2017 as part of the improvements.
The new section of road would have traffic light junctions instead of roundabouts, except for the Kittybrewster roundabout which will remain.
However, at a city growth committee meeting last year, it emerged that compulsory purchase orders on homes along the route were still being progressed and that construction was only likely to begin in 2020 or 2021.
Councillors have previously hit out at the project’s delays.
The public exhibition is being held at Sainsbury’s supermarket at Berryden, on November 29 from 10am to 8pm and November 30 from 10am to 5pm.
There will also be an online exhibition on the council’s website.
