Councillors urged to approve 65-bed care home in Cults

Aberdeen City Council planning bosses have recommended that a new care home should be built near a five-star hotel.

The Marcliffe Hotel, on North Deeside Road, and Mealmore Ltd have applied to build a 65-bed care home on unused land adjacent to the International School and five-star establishment.

There have been five letters of objection, including from nearby medical practices who have said they lack capacity to care for more elderly patients.

But a report to councillors on next Thursday’s planning committee recommends they support the proposals.

It reads: “The proposal is considered to retain the character of the surrounding conservation area and has been designed with due consideration for its surrounding context.

“A satisfactory level of internal and external amenity space would be provided for new residents with the majority of rooms having an attractive outlook and satisfactory level of daylight.

“It is considered that the traffic impact and levels of car parking proposed are satisfactory and links to sustainable transportation are good and would be enhanced.”
