PETERHEAD FC MANAGER JIM MCINALLY SERVES CHRISTMAS DINNER TO MORAG MCBAIN (L) AND JENNY RITCHIE AT THE CLUBS ANNUAL LUNCH FOR LONELY PEOPLE.

Peterhead FC and a team of volunteers are spreading Christmas cheer to the elderly and isolated this festive season.

Armed with bowls of soup, plates piled high with traditional turkey dinners and platters of homebakes, helpers yesterday made sure the 75 people attending the club’s party were spoilt.

One of those feeding the crowds at Balmoor Stadium was Peterhead FC manager Jim McInally.

He said: “This is always one of the nicest days to come here. Every year this gets better and better.

“It’s scary. You live in your own wee world and often don’t realise there are people out there that have no one to spend Christmas with.

“It’s great we can reach out and help.”

The club’s community liaison officer Nat Porter invited locals  to the club after speaking to Boogie in the Bar regulars, Alzheimers Scotland and care homes in the area.

He said: “We’ve managed this again today thanks to all our volunteers as well as donations from the likes of Morrisons, Strachans and Home Bakery.

“It’s been fantastic.”

Pupils from Buchanhaven School Choir were bopping and singing Christmas tunes to entertain the crowds before their meal.
