A new pedestrian and cycleway link will be created by the A92 at Murcar.
Councillors on the city growth and resources committee unanimously agreed to spend £450,000 on the section of path, which will join the A92 Murcar roundabout to a point just south of Blackdog.
The stretch was identified as a missing link for active travel between Bridge of Don and communities north of the city.
It is hoped the new three-metre wide route will encourage people to walk or cycle in the area.
The section will be located between an existing path and cycleway in Bridge of Don and another path south of Blackdog in Aberdeenshire.
It will also link with an existing bus layby on the road.
A feasibility study for the path was carried out in 2015 and the first two phases along Ellon Road have already been completed.
The project is part of the city’s active travel action plan, which is designed to improve cycling and walking facilities and routes.
Funding was secured for the development by Aberdeen City Council from the AWPR offset mitigation fund.
Aberdeenshire Council is actively developing its own proposals for a similar route from Ellon and south to Aberdeen along the A92 corridor.
Consultation on those proposals is expected in early 2020.
