VIDEO: Footage shows rough conditions out at sea as heavy rain and strong wind batter the region

Strong wind and heavy rain has been battering the north and north-east today.

The Met Office issued a number of alerts for the region and said “winds will strengthen through the morning with gusts of 50-60 mph likely inland, and 60-70 mph around some coasts and over higher ground.”

Gary Sangster recorded this footage showing the conditions those out at sea today are facing.

The video was recorded at 10.30am this morning adjacent to the Asco South Base road in Peterhead.

The footage was shared on social media and many commended those who have to go out in those conditions.

One person wrote: “Respect to those that go out to put seafood on our plates.”

Another said: “The things some people do to put food on our table, parliament take note. True men.”

The conditions have resulted in a number of schools closing in the Highlands and flood alerts being issued for many parts of the north of Scotland.

Schools closed, flood alerts and ice warning: Wintry weather causes disruption in the north and north-east

The wintry conditions are expected to continue on Wednesday with the Met Office warning motorists and residents to expect icy patches and showers. The yellow ‘be aware’ alert says the conditions could lead to some travel disruption and could make injuries and accidents on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths “more likely”.
