A woman has been seriously hurt following a collision on a busy Aberdeen road.

Emergency services were called to attend the incident on Lang Stracht just after 4pm yesterday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was hit by a car and the city-bound side of the street was cordoned off, outside the Lidl supermarket.

Aberdeen City Council were advising motorists to take alternative routes via Anderson Road, King’s Gate and Queen’s Road.

Officers remained at Lang Stracht last night while they carried out investigations into the cause.

The road was blocked off between Stronsay Drive and Whitemyres Place for a number of hours.

Inside the cordon, directly outside the former Aberdeen Journals headquarters, a crash-damaged Hyundai i10 could be witnessed with its hazard lights on.

One officer was seen examining the small red car with a torch, including recording details of a large circular crack in its front windscreen.

Police were also observed measuring parts of the road surface some 50ft further back, where a smaller inner cordon of tape had been set up.

Meanwhile, a person was cut free from a vehicle on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen Road following a two-car crash near North Water Bridge.

Two men also suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

A third person was cut free from one of the vehicles by firefighters.

Fire and rescue teams used hydraulic cutting gear, a hose reel jet, small tools and a trauma bag on arrival.

Their condition is not currently known.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said three appliances – two from Brechin and one from Laurencekirk – were sent to the scene.

She added: “We sent three appliances. The call came in at 3.59pm and the stop message came in at 5.12pm.”

The southbound road remained closed for a number of hours and Traffic Scotland warned motorists of tailbacks.

A diversion was put in place via the A937 Laurencekirk to Marykirk road.
