Hundreds of new affordable homes could be built in Peterculter

An early outline of the proposed site put forward by First Endeavour LLP
An early outline of the proposed site put forward by First Endeavour LLP

Peterculter has been ignored for expansion for years and is crying out for new facilities, say developers with hopes of creating hundreds of new affordable homes.

First Endeavour LLP is preparing to submit early plans to Aberdeen City Council for a new housing project to the north of the community.

It would sit on the outskirts of the city council’s boundaries, bordering Bucklerburn Road and the B979 Malcolm Road.

Although no final number of properties has been confirmed, a spokesman for the developer said it would be “in-line” with its previous projects in the city.

The £30 million Dyce development on Wellheads Road boasts 283 homes, while the company is also seeking to build almost 100 affordable flats in a separate scheme at Bucksburn.

If granted final approval, the Peterculter development would be a mix of affordable and council properties, with constriction beginning as early as next spring.

As well as homes, the Peterculter plan will include community facilities, accessible housing and new access roads.

A spokesman for First Endeavour said: “Peterculter has been passed by for development in local plans in the past.

“The developments have instead gone to the likes of Cults, Bieldside and Milltimber, but Peterculter as an established community is screaming out for affordable family homes.

“These are homes, not flats, that will have front and rear gardens in a rural setting with great connectivity to Peterculter itself.

“There’s enormous interest. We have several housing associations interested in this site already for the type of housing we will be providing.”

The proposed site is currently home to the Tillyoch Equestrian Centre. Last night the centre’s management declined to comment.

As well as the riding centre, the proposed site contains a great deal of forested land, but the developers say the trees will be incorporated into the project.

The spokesman added: “We see the ancient woodland as an incredible asset to the site.

“We want to keep it for the diversity of wildlife in the area and we see it as a major part of the project.”

First Endeavour will hold a public consultation on February 10, from 2-7pm at the Culter Village Hall on North Deeside Road.

The event will give local residents and anyone else interested the chance to speak to the developers and find out more about their proposals.
