A north-east sensory charity has taken further actions in order to protect service users, volunteers and staff amid the coronavirus outbreak.

North East Sensory Services (NESS) has now suspended home visits and face-to-face appointments as a result of the new measures.

In-person meetings, clubs, groups and events have also been cancelled and where possible, other forms of digital communication is planned to be used in their place.

Those referred to the charity for information, equipment or support will be contacted by telephone or other electronic media where practical, or by letter.

Chief executive of NESS Graham Findlay said: “NESS has had to take action to protect our service users, volunteers and staff. These are unprecedented times and we are doing what we can to prevent the spread of disease and keep people safe. As Government advice changes, we may need to change these measures.

“We appreciate these are worrying times for you and that the effects of our precautionary actions could be seriously isolating, so we encourage service users to phone or email to the usual contact numbers for support or information during this difficult time. We expect a number of our dedicated staff and volunteers will be available to take your calls.”
