People of the north-east have been urged to keep their eyes open for vulnerable people, who may be struggling in the Covid-19 lockdown.

Social work chiefs in Aberdeen have appealed to the public to ensure cared for people are being properly provided for.

And they’ve put out a call to action for volunteers who might be able to help authorities to support everyone in need.

The three councils within the Grampian region – Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray – are working alongside health and social care bodies, the police and NHS Grampian to share expertise during the pandemic.

But an Aberdeen City Council spokesman said their efforts could be bolstered by community-minded residents.

“During these challenging times Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray councils are appealing to people to consider volunteering,” he said.

“While it is appreciated that it is a big ask when there is so much uncertainty around, volunteers could help provide a lifeline to many people who are isolated, struggling to make ends meet, need someone to do their shopping, walk their dog or be someone to talk to on the other end of the phone.”

Information and registration forms are available through the Grampian Coronavirus Assistance Hub, at

Meanwhile, council child protection workers have said they want to hear from anyone with concerns for youngsters, who are struggling to cope without the input of schools and nurseries.

There are worries cared-for young people and their families could find the lack of face-to-face contact with social workers, and the increased social isolation overall, difficult.

The city council is using an app to stay in contact with these families, Mind Of My Own – which can be downloaded from app stores or set up at

Anyone with concerns about health, safety or well-being of child should call police on 101 or the Aberdeen Joint Child Protection Team on 01224 306877.

Similarily, those with concerns about vulnerable adults should call 0800 731 5520.
